I love my instructors. They're the best! I thank God they found me out here in this little town. Gregory, our tap teacher, calls Dance Etc. "the little pink dance studio in the desert."
Meet our instructors...
This is Lesley Harvey & Gregory Filler. The photo was taken outside the Theatre at the Folk Festival by our company photographer, Andy Cattoir.
Lesley Harvey
Lesley Harvey came to study ballet with me at the age of 12... and now she's 34! She became a lovely ballet dancer and graduated from student to ballet teacher. She studied with other ballet teachers in the Las Vegas area while in college but never had a desire to "go away to the Big City and experience the world." Thank Goodness! After she graduated from Boulder City High School she went to UNLV and then stayed right here in Boulder City and never left Dance Etc. Today she's loved by little dancers in 1st thru 5th grade & teaches beginning/ early intermediate ballet. Without Lesley by my side, especially during the early years of the studio, I don't know if I would have been able to keep the studio open. She was "selfless" in her devotion to the children and the studio and went far beyond what was expected of an "employee." Miss Lesley is also our office manager/bookkeeper/resident blond/Costco member/ wife & mother and gives the best Step Aerobics class in Southern Nevada! She's certified thru ACE (American Council on Exercise.) Each summer she either travels to an exercise seminar/convention to keep her certification up-to-date or she travels with me (Miss Amy) to a ballet teacher's seminar so we can both keep learning & growing as ballet instructors. We had a blast together at Jillana's summer school for teachers in Taos, New Mexico. Jillana is an amazing woman who epitomizes what a life of proper ballet training can do for a person. Jillana has a fun site to visit at www.jillanaschool.com.
Gregory Filler
Gregory came to me eight years ago when our tap program was barely alive. Today our dancers can tap with the best of them! Somehow he found our studio phone number and called me to ask about auditioning for a teaching position. I was hesitant (because we'd never had a male teacher before!) and he lived in Las Vegas which made me more hesitant ('coz he'd have to drive up to Boulder City and he'd never been here before.) But I said "OK!" anyway. Needless to say the audition went great and Gregory has built our tap program into something that would be perfectly suited for New York City! Our tap dancers are amazing and so is this man. He's toured the world with Tap Dogs, produced major choreography and has more credits than I can list here. You can read more about him at a site one of our other instructors put up at www.danceconvention.com.
